Frank Culbertson still remember what to do when terrorist planes hit the twin towers ofWorld Trade Center in New York, 11 September 2001. He took a video camera, and then find a gap to best record the horrors of outer space.
As quoted beritai station Fox News, Culbertson was in the International Space Stationat the time. He was running a space mission with two cosmonauts from Russia during the August 12 until December 15, 2001.
"The day was very sunny. From the cabin window, I could see clearly across the UnitedStates. I see a ridge of black smoke over New York," he said. "It's horrible to see smokebillowing from your own country. We can say it was a terrible event."
Because the International Space Station moves with a speed of about 5 miles per second, the horrific sight that pass quickly. Culbertson can not long preserve it on tape.
Marking 10 years of tragedy, NASA released the tape Culbertson. In addition to videos,also some photos captured from the International Space Station at the time.
The video includes commentary is heard on Radio Culbertson NASA at that time. "I just want everyone to know that their city still looks beautiful from space. I know this condition is difficult for American society today," Culbertson said shortly after the attack occurred.
